Trail Overview
Sawtooth is located at the most western portion of the Datil Mountain range in Cibola National Forest and will be easily driven by most vehicles including passenger cars. The road is very well maintained with minor rutting being the only obstacles. The road is wide enough for two vehicles and is primarily a dirt surface with some small sections of gravel. Views of the Sawtooth Mountains, Monument Rock, and Lone Mountain are abundant throughout the drive. This is an out-and-back trail with multiple motorized and hiking spurs along the route, many of them leading closer to the base of the mountains. Cell service is in and out through the track being stronger towards the beginning. There are some low-lying areas that may have water flow after rain or snow melt and expect the entire road to be slippery mud after rains. Wildlife is abundant and active in the area, take note of the predatory animals in the area if hiking.
