Trail Overview
This trail begins near the highway and Shady Dell Campground. The first couple hundred yards are paved, turning to fairly smooth gravel for the remainder, with the occasional pothole to avoid. Although there is a large climb in elevation, the trail is gradual and does not have any overly steep sections, however, there are some steep trail-side dropoffs. Several RV campers were present in pullouts at the beginning with makeshift fire rings. Some of this trail is only one vehicle wide, but there are numerous places to pass and a wider spot is typically close at hand. Past logging is evident in the area, with large slash piles still present, as well as some people cutting firewood for personal use at the lower elevations. Good views in places, but in general this is heavily wooded. Clearings with ferns are present where trees have been cut in the past, followed by dense forests. Due to the density, there can be significant debris on the road, ranging from small branches to large trees. Clearing gear is recommended to prevent needing to turn around, particularly after windstorms. In winter, snow may be encountered at higher elevations, and 4WD/snow tires are recommended.

Difficulty
Although this trail is a 1 in general, it should be upgraded to a 2 in winter due to snow conditions and traction. The trail appeared to be unmaintained after rain/snow.
