Trail Overview
The Francis Marion National Forest is located north of Charleston, South Carolina. It is named for Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, who was known to the British as the Swamp Fox. It lies entirely within the Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion. The park is also entirely in a subtropical coniferous forest. There is a major issue with trash dumping in this area of the forest, so please respect the Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly principles to minimize your impact on this area. This road is in rough condition with many potholes and becomes very muddy after it rains. The bottoms of the puddles are hard-packed and pose no issue if you have ground clearance. Photos show what the typical obstacle on this route looks like.
