Trail Overview
The Francis Marion National Forest is located north of Charleston, South Carolina. It is named for revolutionary war hero Francis Marion, who was known to the British as the Swamp Fox. It lies entirely within the Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion. The park is also entirely in a subtropical coniferous forest. This route is one of the primary access roads on the eastern side of the National Forest. It is a high-speed packed dirt road that offers quick access to various areas of the National Forest with many spur roads branching off along the route. Most of the route follows the top of a high berm with swamplands on all sides.
