Trail Overview

The Francis Marion National Forest, situated north of Charleston, South Carolina, bears the name of the Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, who was dubbed the Swamp Fox by the British. It is nestled within the Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion and is characterized by a subtropical coniferous forest. This route crosses the railroad tracks on Highway 41 and travels into the small town of Bethera. It crosses between marshland and upland forest. In certain segments, it parallels the South Carolina Adventure Route.
