Trail Overview

Red Butte Trail is a shorter single track in White Wash that is like a mini Mary's Trail, but slightly easier. This one goes over red sandstone mesas, with steep climbs and descents over the slab rock formations. It drops in and out of sandy spots in between the climbs. There are a couple of very steep climbs that look pretty menacing from the bottom, but the slab holds traction really well and you need to stay committed to the climb with your weight forward. It goes over a big wide sandstone shelf at the edge of one of the mesas that has a bit more exposure, like off-camber side-hilling around the mesa. Put your weight on the downhill peg to hold traction to the ground here. There's a steeper obstacle right at the north end when it drops off the sandstone mesa into the sandy desert, which is made up of several rock ledges. Overall all the obstacles on this trail are of intermediate difficulty, and you'll feel like you're on Mars while riding over all the red sandstone. The trail is easy to follow if you keep looking for the white paint markings on the red slab rock.
