Trail Overview
This segment of the Sovereign Single Track continues south after the intersection with Link 4 and Lawson's Ledge. This segment has many technical features including big rock ledge obstacles and tight switchbacks, but also has some fast and easy sections in between. Going north to south, the trail does some side-hilling around the desert mesas, and goes through rock pinches, down rock drops and up stair steps, and through a long slab rock section. It has a shelfy climb, but it's wider so not too difficult. There's a tough hairpin on a ledge that adds some difficulty. There is an easier section near where the trail meets Link 3 and continues south towards Link 2. The easy section goes over some slab rock with small ledges and is mostly flat. Follow the blue paint when it goes over the slickrock. The trail intersects with the Salt Wash Single Track near the south end and then continues south towards Salt Wash Road to exit the trail system. There is another big ledge obstacle after the intersection with Salt Wash Single Track which is a technical feature. Overall this is a fun challenge in a unique landscape and makes a fun loop with Salt Wash and Cedar Mountain.
