Trail Overview
Red Mountain Trail is an advanced single track in the Green Gulch Trail System made up of rock ledges obstacles, loose dirt, embedded boulders, and steep sections of climbing/descent. From the intersection with Prospectors, it starts off as a two-track width and then later narrows to a single track as it side hills along a high desert mountainside. Watch out for prickly pear cactus, which lines both sides of the trail at times. The trail goes through a couple of gates, one of which is in a very inconvenient location at the top of a rocky hill climb before dropping back down. One of the gates is also at the edge of a small pond and is easy to miss. The rock ledges are tricky because they are steep with lots of loose dirt. Overall this is a fun challenge, but also can be very hot in the summer and early fall.
