Trail Overview
This 5.7-mile-long single track is a really fun and scenic ride near Green River, Utah, and has a couple of spots that will definitely challenge the average rider. It makes a loop starting and ending off of the Orange Trail (Crystal Geyser Road). The north end starts in a wide grey wash, in a volcanic-looking landscape on bentonite soil with loose rocks. There's a big hill climb right away up a narrow rutted trail, side-hilling on soft dirt to get onto the ridgeline of the mesa. The whole trail is a mix of riding up and over the mesas with lots of hill climbs and descents on the flats on top of the mesas and in the washes and valleys below. Be prepared for side-hilling, rock ledge obstacles, and some tight switchbacks. It's a really unique landscape with black, red, grey, and white dirt and sharp jagged-looking rocks. It overlooks the canyons while on the rim, then drops down into those canyons, making for a really fun ride. One of the unique parts about this trail is riding between giant boulders that line the trail. There are frequent rock ledge obstacles of a 5 or 6 difficulty that are tricky because they are on steep climbs with loose dirt in the run-up, so it's hard to get traction. Two rock ledge obstacles make it a 7 difficulty. One is a series of ledges in a tight slot between rock walls on a steep climb that would definitely trip people up because it's easy to get your tire stuck in a pinch and start spinning. The other more advanced obstacle is at a tall undercut ledge in the wash. You have to ride up a big flat boulder in the wash that requires some commitment because there are holes on either side of it.
