Trail Overview

Hogan's Run is a 9.2 mile each way out and back. It is named after Hogan Trail which is a rarely used trail for hiking and riding horses that heads off to the west 2.9 miles into the trail. The hiking trail leads to Hogan Cabin about 5 miles to the northwest. The trail begins at Cave Creek Road (FR24) near CP Butte. From there you will head west on FR602. For about 3.5 miles you will work your way down to Holmes Creek which you will follow for about half of the length of the trail. You will cross Holmes Creek multiple times along the way. Sometimes entering or exiting the creek you will encounter some ledges that will make you rub your frame on breakover and drag your hitch on departure. The trail is narrow in many places, and you WILL scratch your vehicle driving through it. If you are attached to your clearcoat you should avoid this trail. There is also a closed but unlocked gate along the way. Make sure you close it after you pass through. The trail then breaks away from Holmes Creek to the east and circles around a ridgeline to the south where it dead-ends at North Pass Tank Number One. There are two side trails that connect to this trail. The first is FR2023 which heads off to the southwest after around 2.5 miles. It meanders for a bit and is overgrown. You will have trouble finding the right path sometimes. Overall, not a very worthwhile side trip. The other side trail is FR 3189 which heads off to the northwest and creates a loop to connect back to the main trail FR602. This stretch is much more challenging than the rest of the trail. The trail guide's vehicle attempted but was not able to make it through this side trail. So, try it at your own risk.
