Trail Overview
This trail runs to the historic Middletown Railroad site from the Arizona Peace Trail. The historic Milltown Railroad site is about halfway along the trail between the AZPT and the town of Mojave Valley. There is a very narrow offshoot down to the historic site where some brick structures are still up on the hillside. Up above along the trail, there is a kiosk with information about the old railroad. A little further along is an old circular cement area that was either part of the mill or a railroad turnaround. The trail is rocky and bumpy, particularly from the AZPT trail turn-off down to the old Mill site. From the historic Milltown Railroad site into Mojave Valley, the trail turns to loose sand going in and out of some washes. There are a lot of side-by-side ruts, especially the closer the trail gets to town. These left and right deep washboards make the trail fairly slow going. The closer you get to town, the more trash there will be, and it is a popular area for target shooting. There are one to two bars of AT&T cell service on the trail. This area gets very hot in the summer months, and this trail has no shade. Bring plenty of extra water and supplies if traveling in the warmer months. This is also an area where it's not uncommon to encounter rattlesnakes.
