Trail Overview
Rock Rut is a short trail, 0.7 miles, that is made up of about 15 switchbacks. The switchbacks aren't too steep, but they are full of rocks. The beginning of the trail near the intersection with Ward is less rocky, easier, and smoother. There is one big log down near the top as well. It gets rockier as it drops down off the hillside towards the intersection with Interstate. Each switchback is its own unique challenge, either with lots of loose rocks or little rock drop-offs. They are pretty wide, but still a bit of a challenge because of so many loose chunky rocks. It connects to Interstate when the trail straightens out at the bottom of the hillside. Riding Rock Rut is just a prelude to Interstate, which is also extremely rocky and a good challenge.
