Trail Overview
To the East of Bullhead City, Secret Pass Slot Canyon is an out-and-back wash trail that leads adventurers to a drivable slot canyon. The trail begins as a wide open, sandy wash basin, consisting of several trails that all lead in the same direction. Most, if not all of them, are washboarded for the next 3 miles. As you leave civilization behind, the trail progressively becomes more narrow as vegetation and bushes turn to small cliffsides that begin lining the edges of the wash. The cliffs are susceptible to water and can collapse down onto the trail at any time, as noted in one of the photos. About 3 miles in, the slot canyon narrows as the tighter turns begin. SXSs and smaller will make it through with no trouble. Per some online research, narrow vehicles such as Jeeps have previously traveled through to the end of the canyon. It cannot be confirmed or guaranteed if every smaller vehicle will make it--travel at your own risk. In those narrow sections, be alert and prepared for oncoming traffic that could force one of you to back up to allow for passing. The trail dead-ends at a turnaround point. For a bonus adventure, park it and go for a little hike up the Slot Canyon. You'll discover the abandoned remains of a vehicle whose story and how exactly it ended up there is a mystery. The foot trail continues as far as you'd like to go. Please be respectful and do not leave trash in the canyon. If you bring it in, take it out. Trash is a growing problem due to careless individuals and is one of the reasons special places get shut down. Help keep this spot enjoyable for years to come. As a safety note, if rain is forecasted, especially uphill in the Black Mountains, avoid this trail. Slot canyons are immensely dangerous, even deadly, in flash flood conditions.
