Trail Overview
The South Mesa trail is a gem of a trail. The northern part of this trail makes its way through a beautiful section of forest made up of ponderosa pine trees. There are large, level campsites in the area with primitive fire rings and areas for bumper pulls or larger trailers. The trail eventually narrows and morphs into a rock-lined, obstacle-laden trail that makes up its middle section of roughly 6.5 miles. During this section, paint damage is guaranteed, with trees and bushes making their mark on your vehicle through tight turns. There are multiple wash crossings with off-camber entrances and exits, as well as steep sections. The trail also boasts erosion, washouts, and drainage damage, so caution is urged. There is no cell service on this trail, so offline maps are essential. The final section of this trail is similar to the beginning, with a wide dirt track and vista views.
