Trail Overview
Big Athens Fork is a winding pass through the Wolf Pen Gap area. It's mostly a maintained gravel road with washouts and concrete water crossings. There are some narrow parts of the road, but there are places to pass oncoming vehicles. It runs along a creek with several crossings. There are several campsites along this route. It can be done in 2WD. Rain may cause some slick spots and mud holes. This trail can be done any time of the year, but fall would be the most colorful. Watch for SXSs on the trail due to the popular area of Wolf Pen Gap. There are no real concerns except the drop off the side of the trail while going up the mountain.
