Trail Overview

Williams Pass is now open for the first time in several years from the East side (leaving on Hancock Pass from St Elmo), although you will actually arrive at the west side of the tunnel. This will be an out and back as a rock slide is still blocking access from the West side Tin Cup). The road is open from August 1st -31st only, to protect the Tundra.

Difficulty

The road is not steep, does not have drop offs or ledges or large obstacles, but it extremely rough and muddy in spots. It was passable on a dirt bike but painful.

History

The trail will take you on a very historic rain route called the Alpine Tunnel. There are some informational placards to stop and read along the way.
