Trail Overview
This is a short offshoot of the North Fork Rye Road that almost takes you to the Deer Mountain lookout tower. Unfortunately, there is a gate about a half mile from the lookout tower, so you can't drive all the way to the lookout. The Deer Mountain lookout tower is an active tower. Before fire season, the gate might be opened. This short trail is an easy gravel/dirt drive that has some good views of the mountains west of Darby. This end of this trail could be a nice spot to stop and have lunch while exploring other nearby trails. Taking a short hike to the lookout tower would be worth the views of the valley.
