Trail Overview
Cerro Pelon Base is only one of two motorized spurs that runs north of Rock Spring and traverses right along the base of the Cerro Pelon Mountain. The trail is primarily single-vehicle wide with a few sections having room to pass. The track will be easily completed by most high-clearance AWD vehicles that can clear the larger loose rocks and rutting that are up to 12 inches in size. There are a couple of short steep grade climbs on loose rock and dirt, as well as a few low-lying washes that may be shallow water crossings after rain or snow melt. Views change frequently from dense trees and brush to wide open views towards the north, west, and southwest. Cell service is moderate in this area with several areas having no service. Wildlife throughout the area is active and abundant. This is an out-and-back trail that ends at a decommissioned FSR.
