Trail Overview

South Elephant Ridge is a single track in the Flat Top - Peach Valley Recreation Area that follows a skinny ridge line on top of adobe clay hills. Like most of the trails in the area, the trail is made up of steep climbs and descents up and over lots of adobe clay hills. Starting from Elephant Skin Road, the beginning of the trail has some of the more gradual grades of the area and even a section of the ridge line that is more straight and flat, but you still have drops-offs on both sides of you. However, the grades get steeper after the trail passes the intersection with Ponds Ridge. The last section of the trail has some of the most narrow and steep climbs in the whole area. At the east end of the trail, it intersects with Teton Ridge Trail. This is a fun area where you can ride lots of short ridgeline trails that intersect all over the adobe badlands, and play around on the hill climbs. It is easy to make a day ride of any length, with varying difficulties.
