Trail Overview
3197 runs west-east in the Tonto National Forest near New River and is an intermediate Jeep trail in a lightly used OHV area. The west end departs from the neighborhood from West Mingus Road and heads east for 1.8 miles. The trail is pretty beat in and used, with frequent signage. The easternmost portion after the intersection with Shoemaker Connector is less used, overgrown with grass, and not very beat in. The east end dead-ends at a high point with a view out over the desert. The whole trail is pretty rocky, with loose small rocks covering the surface of the trail, but has pretty cool views out towards the saguaro-covered hills. It's a steady uphill as it heads east, with some off-camber sections above a wash and narrow sections next to washouts that make it harder for a bigger vehicle. The downhills are pretty loose and technical due to so many loose rocks.
