Trail Overview
This section of the Arizona Peace Trial runs from the short tarmac section on Hyder road into the network of trails at the Red Raven intersection. This section is camping central and, in many parts, has two parallel routes in which to be able to pass oncoming traffic easily. Loads of cell coverage at the beginning fade to almost none by the northern intersection. If you are looking for a spot for a big group to pull in overnight, this is a great place to do it. There are many large, level camping spots to choose from, with room for even big rigs and toy haulers. It would make for an excellent staging area. Keep your eyes peeled for Military aircraft and law enforcement, as this is a busy traffic area. The trail is primarily flat, with a few places that puddle after a rain storm. Be aware of the occasional washout if moving quickly. Once past the Chicken foot crossroads, the trail narrows with deep wash crossings and sandy sections. In this area of the route, it is recommended to have a high clearance 4x4. Paint damage from the Creosote and Paloverde trees along the sides is guaranteed. Be on the lookout for buried rocks in the wash crossings waiting to take out a sidewall.
