Trail Overview

This track starts by crossing the East Verde River. Use caution when crossing even though there is a concrete pad at the crossing, currents can become dangerous after summer monsoon storms and spring snowmelt making this trail inaccessible. Travel is not advised during winter months as snow will obscure the rock gardens. The track is narrow with only a few areas with enough room for vehicles to pass but plenty of room for a full-size vehicle to safely maneuver. The terrain is littered with washouts that severely narrow the width of the track and ruts due to storm runoff. Rock gardens consisting of flagstone and black volcanic stone stretch almost the entirety of this trail. Driving the trail from the East Verde to State Route 87 will reward you with a view of scrub grass plains capped by the Mogollon Rim looming in the background.
