Trail Overview
This is a narrow, challenging loop trail to a beautiful valley. The trail can be run in either direction, picking up from the White Chief Mine or the wash leading to the mine. Both ends of the trail run in the wash for a while. Much of it is deep, loose sand. The trail will run up and around a large hill. As the wash approaches the hill, the trail becomes more rocky. Some rock sections are sharp and can cause sidewall damage to tires. The trail emerges from the wash and turns into a series of rollers, crossing smaller washes. There are some steep transitions in and out of these smaller washes. Eventually, the trail makes it up to a plateau with some tailings from an old mine. The views up the valley along this trail are stunning; it feels very secluded. Many wild burros are in the area, and they can frequently be seen on the trail. There is a steeper rocky hill on the other side of the plateau where it drops into the wash closer to White Chief Mine. There is some dispersed camping at White Chief Mine. There aren't any fire rings on this trail; however, some flat areas could be good places to dispersed camp. This area gets very hot in the summer months, and this trail has no shade. Bring lots of extra water and supplies if traveling in the warmer months. This is also an area prevalent with rattlesnakes. There is intermittent AT&T cell service on this trail. There is better service closer to the White Chief Mine.
