Trail Overview
Slot Canyon Bypass is a point-to-point trail that traverses the ridgeline above Secret Pass Slot Canyon. Starting at the western end, the trail begins in the sandy, canyon wash, climbing up and back out into the desert landscape. The trail is predominantly an easy-going dirt two-track with a short hill or two to navigate. At the eastern end, 2.5 miles in, the trail has three options for getting down a hill. The first one is the easiest. The second option (where the track goes) is more steep and has a small rock ledge and loose rocks on the trail (see photo). The third option (if you stay straight), is the steepest of all and has a greater rocky face--going down may not be as challenging as trying to go up (see photo). The very end of the trail connects to a few different trails in the area. Warning: if you are attempting to connect to the trail "Pass Canyon" or get down into the wash, the trail down the hill is immensely challenging. This section is advised for advanced/expert drivers with vehicles that have plenty of clearance and lockers, as it is on a very steep hill with large boulders 2-3 feet tall, loose, sharp rocks, and a drop-off on one side (see last few photos). This is the reason the track ends where it does, at the top of the ridge, and does not connect.
