Trail Overview
Derecho FS 2138 is a natural dirt terrain forest service road, within the Mark Twain National Forest Fredericktown Unit. The road shines through its use in the hunting season, as signs show that is its biggest use, but it comes with its mild thrills of small mudholes and water collection spots, semi-narrow treelines, all while slowly tracking slightly downhill to the turnaround at the end. The road is on a 375-acre plot of Forest land, 1.4 miles as the bird flies, 4.7 miles by road, from the next piece of Mark Twain National Forest, giving it a unique one-of feel. Several flat camp-worthy spots along the way could be utilized for an overnight dispersed camp stay. Derecho, your uncle's hidden hunting spot that he may now have forgotten.

Difficulty
Derecho is given a 3/10 base rating for the few mudholes and water collection holes present along the track, meeting the 6-12" depth range, a little momentum is key, but due to the hard drop-off and short length of one hole in particular, should not be hit with too much momentum, as it could cause damage. If in doubt probe it out, and check the depth of the holes. The trail is dirt-based and when wet is consistently slick and low traction surface mud throughout. The difficulty could change and increase through heavy use and extreme conditions, or could drop if the road was ever to be mended and covered with gravel from end to end, most likely dropping it to a 1/10.
